Potassium Phosphite provides phosphorus as PO3 which stimulates the rapid proliferation of roots in treated plants. As a result, it can be used on crops to establish a vigorous root system and thus outgrow soil-borne diseases or pests.
Potassium phosphite also stimulates plant defence mechanisms. Unlike many other compounds with this activity, potassium
phosphite can move systemically in the plant. As such it can be applied either as a foliar spray or root drench.
Commonly used on lawns, sports turf, field vegetables (including potatoes), and vineyards.
Phosphite is a biostimulant and not a replacement for phosphorus fertilisers that deliver phosphorus as phosphate (PO4). Some companies sell phosphites as ‘phosphorus fertilisers’. However, phosphites do not convert to phosphates readily. As such, use as a rooting or foliar biostimulant, not as a replacement for phosphate-based fertilisers.
Application Protocols
Field crops – apply at 2-4 litres per hectare in 200-400 litres of water. 3-4 applications. In potatoes apply weekly after tuber setting.
Orchard crops -apply at 2-4 litres per hectare in 200-400 litres of water. 2-3 applications from the end of flowering through to fruit setting.
Lawn / sports turf – apply at 2-4 litres per hectare in 200-400 litres of water during periods of stress.
Can be applied either as a root drench or as a foliar spray.
Watering can / sprayer – dilute 10-20mL per litre of water.
Always conduct a bucket test to confirm compatibility with other co-applied chemicals.
The Eutrema technical team have conducted a number of tank-mix compatibility tests with micronutrient sprays and it has proven to have good tank-mix characteristics.
Classified as non-hazardous. Avoid eye and skin contact. Store out of direct sunlight, away from extreme temperature (4-3 o C), and out or sight and reach of children.
For further guidance on transport, storage, use, and disposal, refer to the safety data sheet (SDS).
Potassium Phosphite is not classified as a fungicide and Eutrema does not recommend its use against downy mildew or potato blight.
